Outside the Home

This NRA course is both comprehensive and intensive in its approach to equipping the concealed handgun carrier with the skills needed to survive serious adversity.  The course teaches students the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential for avoiding dangerous confrontations and equips students with the basic skills for the safe, effective, and responsible use of a concealed handgun for self-defense outside the home.  Beginning with a review of safe firearms handling, the student progresses to the proper mindset necessary in defensive situations, moves on to proper presentation of the handgun from concealment, and concludes with multiple shooting positions.  The student will find that this course contains the essential skills and techniques necessary to prevail in a life-threatening situation.

The NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home course is divided into two levels, Basic and Advanced.  The Basic course is a nine hour combination of classroom instruction, videos, and live fire exercises which offers the essential knowledge and skills that must be mastered in order to store, carry, and use a firearm safely and effectively for personal protection outside the home.  Upon completion of the Basic course, students may attend the Advanced Course which is an additional five hours of intensive live fire training in advanced shooting skills.

During the Basic Course, students should expect to spend approximately nine hours in class and on the range and will fire a minimum of 150 rounds of ammunition.  The Advanced Course is spent entirely on the range for a minimum of five additional hours during which students will learn advanced shooting skills and will fire a minimum of 150 rounds. Obviously, the Basic and Advanced courses will be taught over a two day period.
